I'm Sharlene. I'm a maker and artist, and I sell my work in my Etsy store. I'm also a volunteer tutor, enrichment teacher and mentor with a non-profit that served at-risk youth.
I live in a 1927 Spanish style home in La Canada, CA, which is nestled in the foothills of Angeles National Forest.
I live with my husband, Kevin, and our two children, Joelle and Jenna (who are in college but still love coming home to their big beds). The rest of the family is made up of two dogs (Rosie and Barley) and three cats (Eloise, Tuco and Phoebe).
Aside from the architecture of the house itself and all the light that pours in from the oversized windows, my favorite thing in our house is the art.
I like to move things around to change up a room and breathe new life into it. It's amazing how a room can be revitalized by changing a few pillows, throws and art. I like to try it out, but move it back if it doesn't work.
I'll take the dogs on a ride to the drive thru Starbucks before I take them on their walk.
Proficiency with every media of art.
Don't be afraid to try.
I don't really have a design icon. I love looking at Instagram posts for design inspiration.
I am definitely non-committal in that regard. When I scroll through my Instagram feed, it feels a little like Picasso's Blue Period and Rose Period.

Is completing your "to do list" a superpower?
That's like asking "Who's your favorite child"?!
It's a small community where just about everyone knows each other, or there is one degree of separation. It also has some amazing trees including deodars which can be more than 100 feet tall. It's hard to believe a community like this exists such a short distance from downtown Los Angeles. (That distance being 15 miles as the crow flies but 20-45 minutes as the car drives).
I loving swimming in our pool (with my swim buddy/dog Rosie). I can enjoy the pool about 8 months of the year. I also love hanging out looking at the deodors and redwoods on our property. I love trees!
Tickle Tree, Lincoln or Penelope's for breakfast or lunch. Four Cafe or Rounds Burgers for dinner (I'm a vegetarian, but Rounds Burgers happens to make the best veggie burgers!).
There aren't too many stores in La Canada, but one of my favorite shopping experiences is the biannual ceramic show at the local community center. I also love shopping the Modern Craft Fair which is held biannually in nearby Pasadena. And, it's just a short drive to Anthropologie.
Etsy, hands down, is my favorite online store. My second favorite is eBay. And of course, there's Anthropologie.
